Take Action, Stay the Course: The Power of Initiative & Intentness

At Infinity Martial Arts, we know that success doesn’t just come from talent—it comes from the choices we make every day. This week, in our Pyramid of Success series inspired by Coach John Wooden, we’re spotlighting two essential leadership skills: Initiative and Intentness.

Together, these traits help students become self-starters, problem-solvers, and finishers. Whether you're working toward a belt promotion, a school goal, or a challenge at home, these are the tools that keep you moving forward—no matter what.

🔥 Initiative: Step Up and Take the Lead

Initiative means taking action without being told. It’s the drive to:

  • Speak up and ask questions

  • Try something new without waiting for permission

  • Offer help when you see someone struggling

  • Take the first step—even when you’re unsure

At Infinity, we say: No one earns a black belt by standing still.

Students who take initiative don’t wait around for someone else to solve the problem. They lead by example, showing courage, curiosity, and a willingness to grow—even if they make a few mistakes along the way.

💪 Intentness: Stick With It, No Matter What

Intentness is the determination to keep working toward a goal—even when progress feels slow or the path gets tough.

This shows up when:

  • You stay focused even when you’re discouraged

  • You keep practicing, even when you feel stuck

  • You return to class with the same goal—even if it takes weeks or months to reach

  • You don’t let setbacks stop you from showing up and giving your best

At Infinity Martial Arts, intentness means not just setting goals—but staying locked in on them, even when motivation fades.

âš¡ Why These Traits Matter in Life

Whether you're a martial arts student or simply building good habits at school or at home, these two traits—Initiative and Intentness—are game-changers. Together, they help kids (and adults!) take responsibility, stay motivated, and keep moving forward.

Great leaders don’t wait to be told what to do. And they don’t quit when things get hard. They step up and push through—and that’s exactly the mindset we build here on the mats.

🥋 Life Skill Challenge of the Week

This week, we’re challenging our students to: Take action—without being asked.
Whether that means starting homework early, offering to help with chores, or stepping into a drill with confidence, we want our students to show that they’re ready to lead themselves and others.

Success starts with one decision: to try.
